Houston's skyline is full of apartments, lofts, and high-rises — from the luxury towers of Uptown and Downtown to the mid-rise communities in the Energy Corridor and the Galleria area. Moving into one of these buildings is a different beast than moving into a suburban house. Freight elevators, loading docks, parking restrictions, and tight hallways all add complexity. Here is how to handle it like a pro.
Start with the building rules
Every high-rise and mid-rise in Houston has its own move-in rules. Some require a Certificate of Insurance (COI). Some require a freight elevator reservation. Some have restricted hours for moving. Some charge a move-in fee. Call your building management at least two weeks before move day and get the requirements in writing. We provide COIs on request — just send us the building's requirements.
Freight elevators: book early
The freight elevator is your lifeline on move day. In busy buildings, the freight elevator is shared by multiple residents, and weekends are competitive. Book your elevator time as early as your building allows. If you are moving on a Saturday, book it the moment your lease is signed. We coordinate our arrival with your elevator reservation so there is no downtime.
Parking and truck access
Downtown Houston and Uptown have limited truck parking. Your building may have a loading dock, or it may require a temporary parking permit for the moving truck. Some buildings allow street parking for the truck; others do not. Check with building management and confirm the truck size your building can accommodate. Houston summers are brutal. If you are moving in June, July, or August, schedule an early-morning start to beat the heat.
